The state news agency MONTSAME was founded in 1921. MONTSAME is a member of the Organization of Asian and Pacific News Agencies /OANA/.
The agency has 120 employees.

It produces domestic and foreign news for all aimags, cities, government institutions, firms, companies, press and other mass media.

MONTSAME also issues domestic news in English and Russian languages, supplying it to foreign embassies accredited in Ulaanbaatar. The agency exchanges news with OANA.

The Foreign news desk issues and translates about 60-70 news items a day.
MONTSAME receives news from REUTERS, XINHUA (China), ITAR-TASS (Russia), RIA Novosty (Russia), YONHAP (South Korea) and PTI (India).

The agency publishes the English weekly newspaper, The Mongol Messenger, the Russian weekly, Novosti Mongolii, and Humuun Bichig, a weekly newspaper in traditional Mongolian script. The agency also issues the 20-page daily bulletin, Yortontsiin Medee (world news).
